Sydney Downey

Manager, Return to Work and Accommodation Services, Queen’s University

Sydney is a Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) who has worked to support the accessibility of employees in the workplace for over 9 years. Since beginning at Queen’s University in 2012, Sydney has created a business case for the benefits of disability management and has built the Return to Work and Accommodation Department from the single-person unit it was when she began. In addition to her work in disability management, Sydney and her team have recently won the Steve Cutway Accessibility Award for their preventative work on Queen’s campus in support of mental health. Sydney strongly believes that you have to make time and space for yourself in order to show compassion to others in their healing and, when not working, Sydney makes sure she makes space for athletics, long walks, and knitting. She is frequently told that she is recognized for her laugh and she makes a point to laugh often.
